AnElephantCant take to water
He can never be compared to a duck
He thinks it’s now time
For a really awful rhyme
Yep AnElephant swims like a rock
Once again it is Friday Fictioneer time.
Our divine Water Diviner Rochelle quenches our thirst for a tidal wave of tall tales.
And AnElephant is in a soggy mess.
The idea is to write a very short story, circa 100 words, based on this picture prompt (below).
This is the third successive night.
I am not sure if the noise wakened me, or if I am just restless.
It is not loud.
Maybe it would be better if it was.
The first night I assumed it was a dripping tap, so I just ignored it.
Last night I got up and checked the kitchen and bathroom.
So tonight I was expecting it.
I strain my ears, try to find some clarity.
It seems to come from far away.
The cemetery outside the village, perhaps.
Where, just last week, my wife was buried.
I wonder if he should go and talk to her – maybe she’s lonely. Good, creepy story.
Lovely twist and just a little spooky.
Oh creepy.The tell tale tap.
His conscience, a tell tale heart!
Recently I watched a history show and they said that a hundred years ago, people were afraid of being buried alive so they would tie a string around their finger and attach it to a bell on top of the grave. Creepy but I guess people felt better if they were attached to something outside. I wonder if the bells would ring when the wind blew hard. That would make for one noisy cemetery. Nan 🙂
Buried alive? Haunting? Undead? So many corners this could turn…
Oooh, creepy. She’s haunting him.
Eerie, I wonder what she wants to tell him.
perhaps she is doing tap-dancing in her grave ! 😉
Sounds like some classic Poe. I love it, although I blame you for any nightmares tonight.
Sounds to me she has left something undone. I don’t even want to think what that might be. Really creepy good story!
It was rudely revealed that….that was a creepy story. Well done. 🙂
I have to wonder why she’s tapping. Doesn’t sound like a friendly call. Nicely done.
Maybe its a morse code from hell . Good one.
Never bury’em alive.. they can always come back
AnElephant bows to Bjorn’s expertise in these matters!
Is the tap in his head because he knows she’s alive? Clever!
Thanks, Mick, AnElephant enjoys different interpretations, and yours is not wrong!
