first date
my first sight of you
tells me it’s true
nothing my friends told me
was an exaggeration
you are stunningly beautiful
your eyes sparkle with light and life
your smile brightens the world for everyone
we eat and talk
and I discover that
you’re smart and funny
you listen carefully
then ask relevant questions
I watch your lips when you speak
they are full and sensual
and promise delights beyond words
when we dance
you move with easy grace
elegantly following my lead
or sinuously swaying in isolation
strangely – to me at least –
you seem to like me
and when I take you home
you stretch up
and brush my lips with yours
I hesitate as I’m leaving
and you catch my arm
and laugh
and then
when you ask if we’ll meet again
I don’t know what to say
the thing is
you see
I don’t care
because you’re not her

A shocking ending and a declaration for loyalty and true love.
Even when she’s left, Cassa, it can be hard to move on…
This is sublime, C.E. A little Elvis, some romance and your mesmerizing voice – I could listen forever to these bitter-sweet memories. I love it! 💫
‘Sublime’ and ‘mesmerising’, Nancy, what can I say.
Sigh…
In full lyrical romance mode again. Very poignant.
I like ‘full lyrical romance’, Doug!
That hurt – for her, for him, for all that life isn’t.
Beautifully written.
Thanks, Jenne. Sometimes, cookie-wise, that’s how it crumbles.
A sad tale, all around, in perfect meter.
Thanks, Liz, a wee slice of life
I enjoyed the verbal and written poetry. The artwork was wonderful too.
