Click here to hear the poet read his words:
blush
you are genteel
unfailingly polite
and I am neither
you always blushed
so easily and so prettily
at the slightest provocation
and I was always one to provoke
your cheeks glowed so brightly
and the colour darkened
as it crept down your lovely neck
like the sunset over the Firth of Clyde
and I was amused
you were a friend
well not even
rather the friend of a friend
and I had no thoughts of anything else
until one day
when you blushed
I noticed that your pretty knees
sitting so demurely side by side
became more rosy
and I wondered if that were a continuation
so I pursued you
my teasing softening to charm
and then seduction
and you succumbed
and I discovered that it was indeed so
I discovered also
that we were no longer
just friends of a friend
but something much deeper
and even more glorious
than your head to toe blush
Perhaps you’ve shifted my romantic cynicism a little. Lovely words.

What a sweet thought, Lindsey.
A lady shouldn’t be cynical about romance, but optimistic.
Smile, and dance, and blush a little…

Thanks, Doug.
If you ever stand on Ayr beach, looking out across the Clyde to watch the sun slip behind the Sleeping Warrior, as we call the highest range on Arran, then you feel that ache in the heart that is a mixture of love and longing…
Kinda thing!

The great thing about fiction, Jenne, is that anything can happen!
AnElephantCant deny he’s cool
although sometimes he’s just a big tease
but once in a while
a nice lady will smile
and he blushes right down to his knees
