the future

the future

today is the end
of all that we were
of all that we promised
ourselves
and each other

you thought I was perfect
for you
you said
but you said it
in the past tense
and not the present
so
today is the end
of the future

About ceayr

A Scot who has discovered peace in a small town he calls Medville on the Côte Vermeille, C.E. Ayr has spent a large part of his life in the West of Scotland and a large part elsewhere. His first job was selling programmes at his local football club and he has since tried 73 other career paths, the longest being in IT, with varying degrees of success. He is somewhat nomadic, fairly irresponsible and, according to his darling daughter, a bit random. So, nobody’s perfect.

    ‘…today is the end
    of the future’
What an extraordinary, bittersweet expression which contains so much.
    Beautiful.
The thought must be in the air.
I read in Steinbeck’s The Pearl this morning:
But now it was gone and there was no retrieving it. And knowing this, she abandoned the past instantly.’
