garlic

Click here to hear the poet read his words:

garlic

chopping onions
cracking garlic
thinking of the past

I remember when
you did these things
when you cooked
because you enjoyed it
and I was happy
because you did it so well
even a sandwich
was a gourmet delight
and a work of art

and you went to the store
chose the ingredients
considered every detail
before creating

I went to a different store
bought wine

I no longer buy wine
I go to the store
buy ingredients
largely unconsidered
then stand

chopping onions
cracking garlic
thinking of the past

  2. jenne49 says:

The emotion of a whole life story contained in the telling of an everyday act.
And the past and the present balanced in the structure of the piece.
    A beautiful, sad, powerful poem.
