teardrop

artwork by phil burns

Click here to hear the poet read his words:

teardrop

just a teardrop
I think
and I’ve seen you cry
before
quite often

then I realise that
this one is different
it touches me
it hurts me

is it because I see
the moonlight
sparkling
against your too pale cheek
or is it
that it is
so solitary

no
it’s just a teardrop
I think
and I’ve seen you cry
before

too often
