a long way

Click here to hear the poet read his words:

a long way

it seems a long way

from that first glimpse
that sends the heart into somersaults
and causes the mind to reconsider
all its previous scepticism
about love at first sight

to when we walk together
on a soft shoreline
caressed by moonbeams
that coyly flirt
across the watchful Mediterranean
a sea which awakens romance
even in this most unlikely of souls

and I am surprised
that your smile which
so enchants me
never leaves
even when you tell me
that you will

and now I understand
it is a long way

down

About ceayr

A Scot who has discovered peace in a small town he calls Medville on the Côte Vermeille, C.E. Ayr has spent a large part of his life in the West of Scotland and a large part elsewhere. His first job was selling programmes at his local football club and he has since tried 73 other career paths, the longest being in IT, with varying degrees of success. He is somewhat nomadic, fairly irresponsible and, according to his darling daughter, a bit random. So, nobody’s perfect.

Beautiful – that description of the Mediterranean – and heart-breaking.
