AnElephantCant hide his tears
He can’t remember when he last shed so many
What on earth will it take
To replace the lovely Nightlake
And his favourite of all bloggers sweet Penny

This week we have a choice of prompt words.
Treasure or Despair.
AnElephant chooses this one.
Well ……
Treasure
His name is Vidock.
Named by her late husband, of course, after the legendary French bandit and criminologist, Eugène François Vidocq.
He is bi-lingual, and is her last link to those halcyon days in the Jura Mountains of eastern France.
Before the senseless skiing accident that finished everything.
But she still has Vidock.
A cross German Shepherd and Husky, he is handsome and powerful.
She is always safe with him
Although advancing in years, he still has the energy of a three-year old.
Until yesterday.
He seemed lethargic, under the weather.
She took him to the vet this morning.
as rainbow follows rain
inevitably
darkness follows light
She now sits with her arms around his shaggy neck, weeping.
There is no hope.
She makes her decision.
She will take him back tomorrow, to end his pain.
the hardest decisions
made for those we love
leave us in despair
An excellent Haibun! Bravo. Beautiful composition, excellent choices of word usage, flowing so well. Just wonderfully written! xo

So sorry to hear of your sadness. I’ve thought of the day when my dog will have to leave us. I will miss her as I still miss other pets who have gone before. Hope it helps to know we’re all here for you…

We had an Australian Shepard/ Collie mix for about nine years. We found her in a shelter. When we had to make that choice…to ease her pain. We never did, replace her. I remember you writing of this lovely fellow before so I believe this to be true. I sigh and share in shedding tears.
Hugs to you for a wonderful memorial.
