liar by phil burns

A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise. Brrr… Exit

Once upon a time the Untied Queendom held a referendum.
The government called it knowing they could not lose.
They lost.
They lost because of one huge lie, told by one huge liar.
Five years later they haven’t resolved the major issue.
An issue which will inevitably cause civil unrest, perhaps violence and death.
Dire isn’t the word.

About ceayr

A Scot who has discovered peace in a small town he calls Medville on the Côte Vermeille, C.E. Ayr has spent a large part of his life in the West of Scotland and a large part elsewhere. His first job was selling programmes at his local football club and he has since tried 73 other career paths, the longest being in IT, with varying degrees of success. He is somewhat nomadic, fairly irresponsible and, according to his darling daughter, a bit random. So, nobody’s perfect.

  1. Ah, and the fact some of us could not tell which country you are referring to, says a lot about just how dire things are …. (an yet, there’s hopefully hope, soon, someplace …) 😉
    Well written, friend!

  2. Almost there. I wonder which way you voted!!! Great picture by the way.

      Almost where, Keith?
Trying to decide where to stick a border somewhere near Ireland?
Thanks, I’ll tell Phil. The image dates back to when Bozo was inflicting his unique brand of stupidity on Dick Whittington’s wee toon.

Stand by for the extension of trade deal talks as we roll into 2021. The pandemic has been a handy way to distract the public from this upcoming disaster.

      And the Irish question, Iain?
Also several million of us who live abroad are still waiting for information…
      You couldn’t make it up.

  4. Yikes. It is dire.

  5. Dear CE,

Jovial? Your country or mine? 😉 Well done in any event.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle
