Sunday Photo Fiction is a weekly challenge presented by Susan Spaulding, who has taken over this great weekly prompt from my old friend Al Forbes.
This week’s photo is provided by the lady herself, and offers myriad possibilities.
The general idea is to write a short story (200 word max) inspired by what you see in the picture (below).
Click on this link to enter your tale, and see what others have written.
As the story is from a woman’s POV there is no reading this week.
Dream Home
When I saw this old house, it was love at first sight.
Like it was when I first met my husband.
So, while he builds the business, I prepare our new home.
He is working 18-hour days, still living in our old apartment in the city.
I have organised the plumbers, the electricians, and the joiners.
I am the sort of woman that men react well to.
They have been wonderful, could not have done more.
They all seem happy to push themselves that little bit farther, just for a smile and a word of thanks.
It has been worth the long hours, and the loneliness.
It looks wonderful.
And I have created the masterpiece.
I have laboriously, tiny flower by tiny flower, painted the magnificent ceiling rose and cornice in the main room.
When my love arrives, I am quivering with pride as I show him round.
Almost perfect, darling, he says.
We just have to paint over that ghastly ceiling.

Michaelangeo once painted a ceiling I understand. An interesting story of chalk and cheese. 😊
Yeah, but I’m not sure that little church thingy was on a par with my narrator’s masterpiece.
Probably not, your narrator obviously has a unique style.😊
The best laid plans as they say…
… o’ mice and men
gang aft agley…
Robert Burns (1759 – 1796)
Not a happy reunion I fear
A tad tense, perhaps…
Well, the ceiling has to stay. He doesn’t know.
Laughing. Something has to give.
Two people with different tastes. How did they get along?
Opposites attract?
