Act Naturally

Hey, I’m going to be a movie star, got a lead role with a local organisation alongside their main man, a really handsome dude, all swarthy South American revolutionary looking.

Just as well there’s no love interest, ‘cos I’m kinda scruffy, in denims, tee-shirt and yesterday’s dust, and he’s impeccably attired in his immaculate uniform, all medals and epaulettes, with dark flashing eyes and a dashing Viva Zapata moustache, so I’d have no chance of getting the girl.

I call him Che, for obvious reasons, and we get on pretty well considering we’ve never worked together on a major project before, and certainly won’t do so again.

He’s an officer, so he does most of the talking, striding about and barking orders, while I mostly just lounge against a tree, make a short speech, smoke a cigarette, and generally look cool.

I should never have got involved, I knew that right back when I was first asked, but I have no choice now, so I’ll stand up straight, say ‘Sorry Mum’, and look straight ahead with eyes wide open.

Apparently these guys like to film their executions, especially of fair-haired, blue-eyed foreigners, and put them on social media pour encourager les autres.

About ceayr

A Scot who has discovered peace in a small town he calls Medville on the Côte Vermeille, C.E. Ayr has spent a large part of his life in the West of Scotland and a large part elsewhere. His first job was selling programmes at his local football club and he has since tried 73 other career paths, the longest being in IT, with varying degrees of success. He is somewhat nomadic, fairly irresponsible and, according to his darling daughter, a bit random. So, nobody’s perfect.

I think, Jenne, that ‘out of his depth’ is a wee bit of an understatement here.
