She
She is a strange and wondrous woman who does things I can scarcely explain with just a small smile and a shrug, and who has knowledge so profound and talents so extraordinary that they are far beyond my comprehension, as well as a quiet and understated beauty that renders me utterly smitten.
When, walking home one night, we are accosted by a crazed youth with a handgun who demands our money, she tells him we are happy to share what we have, and asks how much he needs.
He screams abuse and threatens her with his pistol, so, ignoring her protests, I move to protect her, and feel the bullet crash into my chest.
As I fall mortally wounded I see the despair on her face as she raises her hand towards him and, with a twist of her wrist, causes him to clutch at his heart and fall dead at her feet.
Kneeling beside me with tears in her eyes, she lays that same hand on my chest, and I immediately feel a spark as the wound begins to heal.
My heart breaks as she turns away, and for the rest of my life I will remember Lilith’s parting words: I’m sorry, my love, but you understand why I can’t stay now.

Nearly got distracted from an intriguing read by disappearing down the rabbit hole of who she was/is on Wackypedia. Methinks an avalanche of ‘Biblical revisionism’ is about to descend on your wee head. 🙂
PS – I loved Jack Benny’s routine about a similar situation where the robber tells him to hurry up on his decision on ‘your money or your life’ and he says ‘I’m thinking’.
Apparently she doesn’t feature in the bible, Doug, her tale is all revisionism!

To my knowledge she doesn’t appear in ‘that book’ but is a mysterious figure in myth and legend.
