clementine

listening to the sea

Click here to hear the poet read his words:

clementine

sitting on the sand
listening to the sea
looking at the sky
eating a clementine
wishing

thinking of the past
contemplating the now
dreaming of the future
wishing

remembering your smile
missing your embrace
longing for your touch
aching at your loss
regretting oh so much
wishing

wishing things were different
wishing you were here
wishing you’d come back
just wishing

About ceayr

A Scot who has discovered peace in a small town he calls Medville on the Côte Vermeille, C.E. Ayr has spent a large part of his life in the West of Scotland and a large part elsewhere. His first job was selling programmes at his local football club and he has since tried 73 other career paths, the longest being in IT, with varying degrees of success. He is somewhat nomadic, fairly irresponsible and, according to his darling daughter, a bit random. So, nobody’s perfect.

Very haunting and sad. The repetition of wishing effectively adds to the somber mood.

Thanks, Lindsey, I’m happy it worked for you.
I wasn’t sure about the repetition, but decided to go for it.
Your kind words make it all worthwhile.

Jenne has put it so well. A sublime and haunting piece.

    Beautifully read and beautifully sad.
The heartache in the words and in the voice.
The structure of the ‘wishing’ at the end of each verse, building up to the repetition in the last verse, and the final ‘just wishing’ … it works so well in creating the mood.
