mystery train

you tell me I can sail
on the Marie Celeste
along the Milky Way
and scrawl my poems
on Orion’s Belt
if I just believe
in you

you tell me I can ride
on the mystery train
through the icy rings of Saturn
or sing my songs
on Martian heights
if I just believe
in you

but I don’t hear you
any more
though you’re still persuading me
I know

I don’t believe
in your soft warm tongue
or your words
from long ago

and most of all
my love my life
I don’t believe
in you

About ceayr

A Scot who has discovered peace in a small town he calls Medville on the Côte Vermeille, C.E. Ayr has spent a large part of his life in the West of Scotland and a large part elsewhere. His first job was selling programmes at his local football club and he has since tried 73 other career paths, the longest being in IT, with varying degrees of success. He is somewhat nomadic, fairly irresponsible and, according to his darling daughter, a bit random. So, nobody’s perfect.

Ooh, such imagery, full of wonder.
Then quiet words…delivering such a punch.
    Great poem.
And good to hear you reading it too.
To hear your own take on it.

I found it a slightly odd combination too, Jenne, but that’s what emerged from the muse, and I try not to argue.
      Glad you enjoyed it.

Ooh! I find your words powerful and very sad. The rhythm seems quite jaunty though. Quite a contrast?

It’s funny you say that, Lindsey, when I was reading it aloud I felt it should rhyme.
      Quite strange, hmm?
But thanks for the ‘Ooh!’, I like that!
