Friday Fictioneers is hosted by the wonderful Rochelle, the undisputed master of what I call Sound Bite Fiction.
She sets the weekly challenge, the standard, and the prompt photo.
The idea, as always, is to write a story of around 100 words based on the picture below, which this week is supplied by Trish Nankivell.
Click here to hear the author read his words (not for the faint-hearted):
Big Red Button
DO NOT TOUCH.
DO NOT, REPEAT NOT, DOUBLE REPEAT NOT, TOUCH.
EVER.
UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
Pressing this button will cause the world to end, and not in a good way.
Wow, that’s heavy stuff, man! Has anyone pushed it yet?
It says not to.
It’s a pretty cool-looking button.
Best not, eh?
Oh c’mon, what’s the worst that can happen?
Oh jings. Now we’re all in deep sh…

I guess that they have ended up in the crap version of Davy Jone’s locker, smelly indeed
It was never going to end well, Michael, was it?
Love the sound effect.
Ronda
Thanks, Ronda, it wasn’t quite the bang I hoped for!
I’d push it. How could I not? 😉
Self-control, dear Ali, self-control!
If only we could wipe away our problems with the touch of a button. I wouldn’t mind coming back after the world ends just to see what the reformed world will look like. In truth, I think we are in for a reset, perhaps not as dramatic as pressing a button – just a new way of looking at our lives.
Sadly a lot of folks will barely have a life to look at.
I live in an area that is tourist-dependent, so rafts of businesses have collapsed in the past year.
There’s always someone who can’t help themselves. But, big red buttons do beg to be pushed. Entertainig tale!
That’s usually me, Brenda, I’m not big on self-control.
But, when I grow up…
I’m reminded of those damn “Wet Paint” signs. They’re just an invitation to touch it.
Maybe I’ll make some “Dry Paint” signs and see what response they get.
I got arrested once because I thought ‘Wet Paint’ was an instruction…
Any large sign proclaiming DO NOT TOUCH is like a red rag to a bull! Good stuff as per
You kinda have to, don’t you?
The “UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES” did it. The foolhardy always fall for it. Or in it.
And now we’re all for it.
And in it…
If word limit was 102 words, I’m guessing the next two would be KA-BLOOEY.
I guess that is American for BANG!
I love the sign; still not sure the button would be safe though. What’s the point in having a button if you can’t push it?
I seem to have pushed a few buttons with this post, dear lady!
I dressed a clown one and everybody kept prodding my red nose. Round red things are irresistible.
I see it in your photo, Keith
I took it as a challenge. Bad choice!
Planet destroyed by impetuous fool!
Big Red Buttons are there to be pushed! Who could resist? And especially with a sign forbidding one to do what everyone wants to do. And now I have this picture in my mind of the whole world getting flushed down a monstrous toilet 🙂
Absolutely, Linda!
Leaving such buttons in plain view is asking for trouble.
But there’s a sign, Liz!
Yes, the world needs more of these red buttons to be pushed.
I think one is enough, Neel!
Better than a Diet Coke I say.
Laughing here, Danny, I have no idea what that comment means!
Now, come on, a big red button is asking to be pushed!
Hence the sign, Tannille!
They should hid such buttons & keep all safe 🙂
Take care!
Then there wouldn’t be a story, would there, Anita?
Dear CE,
Oh a sign like that is such a dare. How could anyone resist? LOL. You made me laugh. Tanks.
Shalom,
Rochelle
The Child and the Bean syndrome, m’lady!
And some of us are still infantile in many ways,
He’s out the White House now, right? He can’t get to the big red button anymore!
Actually, Iain, the orange buffoon was not in my thoughts. It seems I have expunged him from my mind!
Lucky you, I think I’m still struggling to accept it’s finally over. Maybe because we still have our very own buffoon who has his own big red button!
You’re trying to push Rochelle’s buttons. Glad you didn’t
As if, Neil!
I’m a big feartie where the ladies are concerned!
