Friday Fictioneers is hosted by the wonderful Rochelle, the undisputed master of what I call Sound Bite Fiction.
She sets the weekly challenge, the standard, and the prompt photo.
The idea, as always, is to write a story of around 100 words based on the picture below, which this week is supplied by Jean L. Hays.
Click here to hear the author read his words:
Delivery Man
Who is it?
The words crackle from the speaker.
I pause, carefully put down the parcel.
This is my first day in my new job, and my first delivery.
It is probably my last chance to make something of my life.
I have made so many mistakes in the past, and I know she is running out of patience.
She loves me, and I can’t imagine life without her.
I need to get it right this time.
For her sake.
I take a deep breath.
Delivery, I lie, needs a signature.
And, for the umpteenth time, I check my weapon.

Your creative writing spells the character out. I luv the mental twist.💧🐋
Thank you, I hope you read the sequel:

Luv 2!🐋💦
I feel that I’m there beside him, and sadly that he’s doomed, great twist at the end.
Thank you, your comment made me smile.
Maybe you can talk to him?
My heart goes out to him. He’s doing this for her sake. I guess he believe that it’s worth it and it’s either this or a future without her.
He is in love, what else needs to be said? He’ll do anything for her.
Well, gotta admit, the guy was persistent. Great turn at the end, CE.!
Five out of five weapon magazines.
The things we do for love, Kent!
😀
What an ominous ending. Leaves the reader seeking more. Good story CE!
Thank you, GiN, glad you enjoyed.
Oy! His ‘choice settings’ is set to “WRONG!”
😉
Nice piece, Ceayr!
Well yeah, but…
😉
Incredible build up with a great twist! You have me rooting for a hitman.
Thanks, Brenda, but I have to say I’m surprised at you!
Haha…your fault not mine!
He sounds like kind of a loser who’s doing his best. I like him!
Y’know, Alicia, I kinda like him myself.
Maybe he’ll be back.
I have so many questions! Who is this guy? Who’s the guy he’s about to kill? Why? I want to know more!
My dear Bernadette,
I only have 100 words, so that is it!
Maybe next week…
Oh dear – no woman is worth a jail sentence.
Laughing.
Well, Liz, I’m not sure that is true…
It’s so hard to please a woman these days, isn’t it? 🙂
I couldn’t say, JJ, I gave up trying many years ago!
I think the secret is to just ask them. Most men don’t do that. Sigh!
Maybe because too often the answer is ‘Well, if you don’t know…’
I fear this chap is doomed to a lifetime of mistakes…
C’mon, Ali, at least he is trying!
Sounds like another mistake coming up.
Oh ye of little faith!
He’s doing his best here
I love that last line. I am afraid though that this might just be one mistake too many.
Nah, this time he’ll get it right.
Maybe.
Awesome twist ending!
Hello, Paula, always a pleasure to greet a new reader.
Glad you enjoyed my wee tale.
I was a while reading this due to laughter. Then I listened to it. I want this guy to be real. A full length book? Good one. I enjoyed it.
Thanks, Bill, he is a recurring theme in my stories.
Your support is much appreciated
I wasn’t expecting that! Great take on the photo prompt.

Thanks, Susan
I’m sure she’ll be very proud of him, who wouldn’t?
As long as he puts haggis on the table, she’ll be happy!
And he will deliver!
Stamped and sealed!
Why am I rooting for a guy who is clearly planning bloody murder? Really good, CE.
Perhaps because we love people because of their faults, not in spite of them?
Good point. I think you’re right.
Oh no. Hope she is okay & pray that the ending is fine.
Why weapon?
The best weapons are smiles and love.
Smiles and love are rarely the weapons of choice for a hitman, Anita!
Ooh great twist. I feel bad that I root for him. 😀
Laughing. Nah, he’s an okay guy, as hitmen go!
I wonder what he wrote on his resume that he landed with such an incredible job 🙂
Maybe, like the rest of us, he writes fiction…
I bet 🙂
Dear CE,
Yes, it could very well be his last day on the job.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Or the start of a bright new future, m’lady?
Ace.
Cool comment
I was almost beginning to warm to him. And in a way, I’m still a bit tepid. I like a murderer who is at least trying to please somebody, if not his victim.
Don’t you agree that most of us are not all good or bad, but a mix?
Maybe even you, Sandra, are not always as patient and sweet-tempered as you might like, hmm?
The thing I like about your stories is the baddies are all (mostly) good people
And the goodies are (mostly) flawed, I think.
A bit like life.
Just from the title I knew this was going to be a special kind of delivery man.
There are always clues, Iain!
Ooh. Good work!
Laughing.
Thanks, Trish!
