Friday Fictioneers is hosted by the wonderful Rochelle, the undisputed master of what I call Sound Bite Fiction.
She sets the weekly challenge, the standard, and the prompt photo.
The idea, as always, is to write a story of around 100 words based on the picture below, which this week is supplied by Jeff Arnold.
There is no reading this week. My voice is currently incapable of this dialogue.
Scenic Route
Julie!
Yes, darling, through here.
Come see what I’ve got.
What is… Oh, Terry, it’s beautiful!
It’s a 1968 Triumph Spitfire MK3. Happy Birthday, my love.
Oh thank you! Can we try it out, can we, can we?
Of course! I thought we’d go to Oban.
Lovely!
We’ll take the scenic route, up the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, through haunted Glencoe, then down Loch Linnhe with its views of the Inner Hebrides.
That sounds wonderful!
I thought you’d enjoy that.
Have we got time to nip upstairs first?
You want to pack an overnight bag?
Afterwards, sweetheart, afterwards!
I love the enthusiasm bubbling over, the excitement of the open road and the charming ending !

I didn’t know you were familiar with our west coast, Plaridel.
And I’m pretty sure they will, before and afterward!

What a pleasant, feel-good story, CE. I hope your throat recovers quickly – or was the problem that you couldn’t avoid laughing while reading? Look after yourself!

A nip upstairs is as close to a vacation as we can get today.
Thanks for the drive, it took me out of my own head for a few minutes.

Uh-oh! I hope that’s only a minor throat problem and not something serious.
Is that all it takes to get a “nip upstairs?” I don’t think I can afford a 1968 Triumph Spitfire MK3.

Just hoarse.
Maybe a bunch of flowers?
