AnElephantCant sit still for too long
He has itchy feet and just loves to rove
He pauses briefly here so
He can let you all know
A calanque is a steep-sided rocky cove
Once again it is Friday Fictioneer time.
Where a spume-splattered Rochelle seduces salty scribes with a spray-filled seascape.
And AnElephant splashes sadly in the shallows.
The idea is to write a very short story, circa 100 words, based on this picture prompt (below).
That’s it.

The Calanque
He sits on a rock on the steep face of the calanque.
Forty feet below him the Mediterranean crashes violently over jagged rocks.
Behind him the cliff face towers inaccessibly.
He came down, carefully, a barely discernible path.
He hardly remembers why he is running.
But he knows they will never forget.
He smiles grimly.
There is no way they can find him here.
He relaxes, enjoying the early winter sun.
As it disappears behind the hills he stands, reluctantly.
And, although they are thirty feet above him, he can see the satisfaction on the faces of the two men.

Looks like he’s busted! No where to run now. You painted a pretty dim future for this fugitive.

So, I am left to wonder if they will come down, or just wait for the tide to turn and do the job for them?

Sounds like a pressure dream to me. Have him jump so he can wake up.
But he still has hope and half a chance, if he can find another pathway out and remain unseen.
Oh I like that you left the ending open. He’s not in a very good situation right now. . . . 😀

I conclude he found his demise. Or he’s trapped either way the outlook doesn’t seem good.
And then…? You gave us just enough to wonder. And that’s a good thing.

A few cliffs, a beautiful sunny respite and a cliffhanger… What a tease!
So many unknowns for the reader in this piece. I love that about it.
Does the path continue further down or is he trapped? And why are they after him?
Hmm, seems like it was a good hiding spot but he’s trapped now unless the place is good for cliff-diving. I had to look up “calanque” but I always like learning new words.
