This week’s prompt.
Motherhood
On a flying visit home he arranges to meet an old friend at Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery.
He sees her fumbling in her bag, approaches from behind, blows on her hair.
She turns in surprise, her face breaks into a smile, her arms go around him.
They have lunch, the easy conversation of a twenty-five year friendship.
Then she mentions, almost in passing, the daughter who is gone.
He sees her brave smile, looks at the pain in her eyes, and crumbles inside.
No amount of planning or preparation is enough.
His words desert him, he can offer no comfort.
She has lost her most precious gift.
For her it will never be springtime again.
a child’s death
worst nightmare
realised
The pain of a lost child..sad beyond imagination. It is her bravery that she is still able to maintain her sanity..

She is a remarkable lady.
And a very dear friend.

I can only imagine the sorrow. Your beautiful post brought tears to my eyes as I hear my daughter, celebrating a birthday today, singing softly to herself in the next room.

One of the places I can never let my mind wander is losing one of my children. My heart aches for those who have. Very moving and beautiful haibun.

I’m sorry. I can only guess how painful it was for you to meet her again and to bring up those memories.

Powerful contrast from how lightly it started and where it took me as I kept on reading. Heaviness, pain and grief you unfolded, so raw, bringing that heart-wrenching feeling along… for me it became real. And your haiku said it all. Beautiful writing.
