AnElephantCant always be serious
Sometimes he likes to be just a wee bitty daft
So he makes a great change this week
Develops a whole new technique
He thinks it is guaranteed to give both his readers a laugh
Once again it is Friday Fictioneer time.
Hosted by the magnanimous and majestic Rochelle, this is a cornucopia of creativity, a plenitude of penpersonship.
The idea is to write a very short story, circa 100 words, based on this picture prompt (below).
That’s it.
Amphitheatre
I should have done this years ago, he thinks to himself.
Seven o’clock and the sun is still warm.
A couple of hours on the beach, a swim in the Med, what a way to spend the afternoon.
A refreshment at the café in the square, making notes for my book, people watching, French people watching, life does not get any better.
If I died now I would be happy, especially as this climb past the amphitheatre is a bit of a killer!
He chuckles inwardly.
Then his hand goes to his chest.
His last words are:
God, that’s sore!

I liked this…very fitting.

Hi Scott
This landed in my spam box for some reason.
No explanation.
Thanks, belatedly, for your comment.
I hope he has enough notes that his book can be published posthumously. You really make good use of “anelephantcant!” Your verses always make me smile. Daft? I think not.
How very sweet of you.
AnElephantCant deny that he is a bit daft sometimes, but he is very happy to make a lady smile.
Great descriptive writing Elephant, just love ‘French people watching’ not sure why, but it made me laugh out loud.
Dee
AnElephant is happy that he makes you laugh,
And that you enjoyed his little tale.
Thank you.
there are worse places to die – I enjoyed your story !
Carmen
And there very certainly are worse places to live!
Very happy you enjoyed it.
Now – that’s quite a drama! 🙂
And you just caught the last act!
Thanks, RoSy!
Just in time. Was it a sword or a heart attack. Way to go – if you have to.
No swords there for centuries, Patrick!
Thanks for dropping by.
Oh Snap! Note to self-do not climb the steps of an amphitheater before your first book is published!
Or after, if you want to enjoy the fruits of labour, etc.
Good to see you here, Joseph, please make yourself at home.
Thank you I shall!
And it did make me chuckle! Out loud even. Great description. I love the French People watching him and what a thrill it was. Sometimes we need to take a look around and, gosh, here I am – and I am in Athens! Greece! How the hell did I get here?
Oh that is nice and the poor man not cold in his grave yet!
But, my dear lady, he was people watching, not the other way round.
Thank you for your slightly ghoulish comments!
Oops — but he died happy I guess. Better take it careful walking uphill with French people watching.
Thanks for visiting Bjorn, but he was people watching, not the other way round.
Oh the munificent AnElephant is always so gracious when writing for his two….ummm probably a lot more (like 10) readers.
However, I would be remiss not to mention how I do adore this new style. I do enjoy your fabulous rhymes (and twists) but I think you really told so much in just a few words. Some people like to talk on and on and on and on….not you. You carry out a wonderful (oh my shocking) tale perfectly in 100 words…give or take.
Now wondering if my comment is longer than your story. 😉
(I love it..made me smile)
Glad you liked AnElephant’s little tale of exactly 100 words – as usual.
Your comment is only 99.
Did you run out of breath, dear lady?
French people watching him die? I can’t think of a greater indignity! (: ) especially for anyone who’s French.) Nice depiction of the life we’d all like…. until the end!
Actually, Perry, he was doing the watching!
Glad you liked the scene as painted, and AnElephant still thinks there are worse ways to go.
Must he die? Oh my. I love the scene, and the pacing. I could envision this whole thing… but I want him to live, and travel on.
He can’t really go much further in 100 words!
But no doubt ‘he’ will reappear in a new guise very soon.
Very happy you enjoyed it.
Talk about a bucket list item. Well done!
Hmm, kinda puts paid to the rest of the list, don’t you think!
Thank you for taking he time to visit and comment, much appreciated.
Well he asked for it. LOL! Great story.
Well, he didn’t exactly ask for it, just thought that worse things happen at sea!
Thanks for visiting.
LOL! I knew I was going to like this one when I read the word magnanimous in the introduction. There’s just something about that word that gets your mind set in the right frame. 😀
Thank you.
Next time AnElephant is lacking inspiration – a fairly regular occurrence – he will just lob in a magnanimous or two to get things rolling!
Haha! And I may do the same! 😀
HAHA That is funny 😀
Really, Al, a chap pops his clogs and you are laughing?
Jolly insensitive of you, old bean!
Sorry
I think “French people watching” is my favorite line of all. 🙂
janet
Thank you, Janet.
AnElephant almost cut it, but liked it too much himself!
OH! You have a wicked sense of humour, darling!
Yeah, well, life, death, infinity, you gotta laugh!
Glad you enjoyed.
At least he was prepared. Thanks for the smile.
Glad the poor man’s demise made you happy, Dawn!
AnElephant just waves to you from a distance!
I thought of going down that path (or should I say up it) but changed my mind. I have climbed those steps… so this strikes a note of remembrance for me. 🙁 Well done.
Thank you, Sandra, AnElephant tends not to be too literal in his interpretation of the prompts, but this opened so many doors.
Well……tragicomedy there, I should say……very cleverly penned..
praise from Ye Pirate is gratefully received.
Thank you.
Well, of all the ways to go, that’s not one of the worst. I like how the first line foreshadows the whole piece: if he had done that years ago, maybe he’d still be alive now.
Thanks, David, AnElephant appreciates your comment.
Dear AEC,
This is one of my favorites from your canon. Careful what you wish for, right? But except for the painful transition, he died happy. I hope that when my time comes, I should be so lucky.
Aloha,
Doug
AnElephant agrees that there are worse things in life than death, Doug.
Thanks for your comment.
Dear Elephant,
A typical case of “be careful what you wish for.” 😉 I went wading in the Med off the coast of Tel Aviv. This made me long for that time.
A well crafted story, I enjoyed it.
Shalom,
Rochelle
So true, Rochelle, but we do not always have a choice, do we?
Thank you.
Good one Sir elephant, you I am sure say the last line tongue in cheek, after all there has to be another trip to Australia in you yet???
What on earth makes you think this is autobiographical, my old mate?
Great to see you here.
