Box
‘What’s in the box?’
She barely lifts her head.
‘What box?’
‘On the wardrobe.’
‘Nothing.’
‘Okay, I’ll toss it.’
‘Leave it.’
‘An empty box? Why?’
‘It’s not doing anything.’
‘Then what’s the point?’
Now she looks at me.
‘Are you after an argument?’
‘What? No! I just wondered…’
‘Don’t. It doesn’t suit you.’
‘I was going to put this suitcase up there.’
No answer.
‘But there’s no room unless…’
‘Just leave the suitcase.’
‘It takes up a lot of space…’
‘Not for long.’
She pulls clothes from the wardrobe, rams them into the case.
‘I’ll take the box too,’ she says.

Dear C.E.
Well crafted with few words and bookended by one of my favorite Beatle songs.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thank you, m’lady, glad you enjoyed.
They are compatible in their contrariness. Very well written.
Just reached incompatible, it seems!
🙂
Well, she’s a real bundle of joy!
It surprises me too, but not all ladies are sweet and lovable!
Yes, this seemed to have been coming for some time. And the hollow feeling argument shows the one-sided disconnect perfectly.
Spot on, I’d say!
And then she was gone! I’m so pleased I’m single.
A fight waiting to start, Keith, and we’ve all seen them!
Oops, not good then, eh?
Not good at all, Chris
Yikes, that seemed abrupt, but I gotta think it was just the last straw.
You’re probably right, Dawn
Short and – definitely not sweet.
Excellent showing of 2 people talking past each other.
It happens, Jenne
He didn’t know when to quite did he.
Didn’t much matter though, did it?
That one was just waiting for an opening! Bye bye!!
Yep, a lost cause!
Masterfully rendered, this spiralling domestic
Thanks, Neil
