A Bad Day

There are some days when, as the sailor said to Brian, I shoulda stood in bed.
While full of colonialisms and grammatical errors, that expression still manages to communicate a deep sense of despair and, perhaps, even injustice.
Well, I’ve just had a day like that.
It started with a puncture on my way to the office.
I dropped the car off at one of these Kwik-Rob places and went into work.
I was late, so got into an argument with my boss, things escalated quickly, I punched him, and he fired me.
I went for my car and discovered it had slipped off a ramp, and was a teeny bit destroyed.
I loved that car, but not like I love my bike, which I bought in France.
So I head home, thinking that I’ll take a ride up the bonnie banks of the loch, through the heather-clad glens, breathe the sweet fresh air, and expel all this negativity that I’m feeling.
I see a large truck has reversed into my driveway, and piles of my possessions have been dumped like rubbish in the garden.
It seems my lovely wife has decided to set up home with my best friend.
I’ll miss him.
But that’s not the worst thing.
These morons have driven over my beloved bike.
They smashed it to smithereens.
Okay, folks, wait for the translation…
Ils ont brisé mon vélo en mille morceaux.

About ceayr

A Scot who has discovered peace in a small town he calls Medville on the Côte Vermeille, C.E. Ayr has spent a large part of his life in the West of Scotland and a large part elsewhere. His first job was selling programmes at his local football club and he has since tried 73 other career paths, the longest being in IT, with varying degrees of success. He is somewhat nomadic, fairly irresponsible and, according to his darling daughter, a bit random. So, nobody’s perfect.

What a delight it is to listen to the lovely Scottish tones of your voice reading your entertaining story—I love it.
    Quelle honte pour votre vélo.

The poor guy can’t catch a break. As U2 sings, “some days are better than others.”

  4. How mean of your wife to nick your bestie. As for Quick-Rob, you had me in Fits! But fear not, les choses ne peuvent que s’améliorer!

So, from what I gather (and I read), English is not the root language of your screed.
Fun, though, I’d have you know.

  6. Kwik-Rob had me chuckling.
    “I’ll miss him” … BAM!

You definitely need a bit of loving care. Call me. 🙂
But I guess all I got for you is my old bike. 🙁

What a disaster. Oh dear, a thousand pieces, poor bike! But the best bit, I agree with Jenne – ‘miss him’. That’s a cracker.

  9. Up there with your lunatic best, CE. Loved ‘a teeny bit destroyed’. And even more so ‘en mille morceaux’. 😉

Ha, neat twist in a brilliant (rhymimg) finish.
A wittily written tale of unmitigated disaster, read in such a droll tone that I’m still smiling.
    Favourite line? ‘I’ll miss him.’
