Friday Fictioneers is hosted by the wonderful Rochelle, the undisputed master of what I call Sound Bite Fiction.
She sets the weekly challenge, the standard, and the prompt photo.
The idea, as always, is to write a story of around 100 words based on the picture below, which this week is supplied by Lisa Fox.
To hear me read my story, just click here:
Fast
Like my new car?
It seems very fast…
Do you like my new car?
Well, yes, of course, sweetie, it just…
Seems fast? It is fast, I like fast!
Um, yes, but…
For a man, you’re such a girlie! Are you scared, baby?
Er, a wee bit, maybe. Can you slow down?
No! So you like it, yeah?
It’s very nice, of course, just a bit…
Fast?
Actually, I wasn’t going to say that, I was going to say small.
Oh, shut up!
You did ask!
If you don’t stop whinging I’ll put you in the boot* with your mother!
* trunk, y’all
* * *
I’m back this week in blatant attempt to promote my first full-length novel, Beginning of After, available on Amazon as paperback or kindle.

Justifiable removal to the boot :).
I’m going to get your book right now!
How fun! Must be a tight fit in the trunk. Well done.
That made me smile, really enjoyed it 😃
If I gave you a smile, Angela, I’m happy!
That was a fun one! I haven’t been around here very much and what a surprise to find you here.
Best of luck on the new book! From what Keith said, it sounds like a winner!
Just dropped by on the off-chance someone might want to buy a great book!
Hey, ya never know! There are multiple ways to get our stuff out there and this is a great one 🙂
Any reader worth their salt knows the boot is the trunk. 🙂
I enjoyed the fact that the owner of the fast car is female.
Lastly, congratulations on the publication of your book. It must feel wonderful to hold it in your hands.
The thing is, Alicia, I don’t know which of my readers are worth their salt!
It’s not the first, just the first full-length, but yes, it’s pretty cool.
Great to see you FFing again! An excellent little tale but I expect you are more interested in what I made of your book!
A fast pace story of differing personalities coming together and falling apart in extreme situations all over Scotland. I was, however, a little worried when you ventured dangerously close to my daughter’s village! All in all a great read which I’d recommend to anyone who enjoys a gripping adventure.
Thanks for kind words on story, Keith, and your cheque’s in the post for the review!
Welcome back, CE and congratulations on your book. He’d better watch out or he’ll get the boot.
Laughing. Thank you!
I’ve heard fast, fancy cars are compensation for something… lacking.
Congratulations on your book. It’s nice to see and hear you back, even if it is only for shameless self-promotion.
Not sure that applies to ladies, does it?
Thanks, and thanks, I was being totally altruistic, felt it would be a shame for any FFeers to miss a great read!
A welcome treat to have you return, I hope you will stick around for a while. As for this guy, he seems to have a bit of a Napoleon complex issue.
Thanks, Iain, but time is, as always, the problem.
CE, welcome back! I like the background music you chose. I also liked how you flipped the script on who was driving. Mother in-law in the trunk will make the corners extra fun. Good story and congratulations on the book. Will you give a general gist of the plot of it, or should I go to amazon to read the blurb?
Thank you, glad you liked the music and the twist.
The book:
A cataclysmic event.
A handful of survivors.
Brutally inflexible authorities, renegade soldiers, and power-hungry psychopaths.
A strange saviour called Sensei.
His remarkable dog.
A hazardous journey through Scotland’s magnificent Western Highlands.
Then things get interesting.
A pacy thriller which also examines the developing relationships within the group with unusual sensitivity, Beginning of After is written in C. E. Ayr’s inimitable dynamic and incisive style.
You’re welcome and thanks for the framework of your plot.
Ha! If the boot is big enough to hold all the whingers, it’s big enough!
Just him and his mum, and the lady is a happy driver!
Haha!! Excellent! Perhaps the worst of both worlds … fast and small!
Oh dear, Nancy, oh dear, dear, dear!
😉
Dear CE,
Guess no whinging is allowed in that family. Close your eyes and hold on tight. Nice to read and hear you again. All the best on the new book. (I’ll have a new coming out this year or next).
Shalom,
Rochelle
You churn them out with great style and regularity, m’lady!
Laughing here – you made me stop bang in the middle to address my stereotypes.
Cunningly done.
You’ve not lost the art of the 100 words.
And congratulations on the novel.
I hope your blatant promotion is effective, because your readers are in for a treat with Beginning of After.
Thanks, Jenne!
Welcome back, stranger.
Never mention the ‘S’ word to a man. 😀
Hmm, you seem to have something on your mind this week!
Nicely done, and love the recording too.
Glad you enjoyed, sir.
And I couldn’t see how to comment on your excellent story.
Welcome back. It’s great to read you again, and with a tale of such compelling logic
Thanks, Neil. Never argue with a lady with a new car!
