Conversation

Some folk’ll believe anything!
Mmm. What?
People. So gullible, believe anything.
I guess, but what…
Like that moon landing. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Whatsisname.
Aldrin.
Yeah, whatever, makes no difference. Never happened, did it?
Well, I think you’ll find it did…
Nah, all made up, a pack of lies, like dinosaurs and Australia and aliens.
Wait! Australia? What do you mean?
Well, it’s not a real place, is it? All those daft animals out of a comic book, kangaroos and ostriches and phone-billed duck things!
Duck-billed platypuses.
Exactly! You’d have to be a fool to believe any of that.
So you’re saying you think the whole of Australia’s just made up? Like not real?
Of course. I mean where could it be?
I’ve been there. My son lives there. I’ve visited him there, lots of times. It’s very real.
Haha! I suppose you saw kangaroos and those duck things too!
I saw kangaroos, yes.
And what were the people like? Were they good actors?
Actors? No, they were just regular people, but Australian.
How do you know?
Well, first of all they told me. And secondly they were in Australia.
How do you know that?
Because I went there. Got in a big silver bird and flew round the world, took nearly 24 hours.
Ha, y’see! That’s what’s so stupid! How can you fly round the world?
In an aeroplane.
Oh I see, you’re one of these morons who can’t understand that the world is flat!
Bye…

I’ve met people who actually think all this rubbish! Nicely done.

Nice work with the ‘over-heard conversation device’*
I, for one, would sooner listen to a faked moon landing people than the flat-earth guys. I mean, that one is stretching the bounds of deniability.

    Fun story. Funny-sounding country.

*not as easy to write as it looks (to the Reader)

Thanks for picking up on the dialogue trick, Clark, I’m never sure if it’ll work or not.
      Glad you enjoyed.
      And Straylia is awesome!

  3. At the top of your form, CE. Just keep those conspiracy theorists away from us and we’ll be happy. 🙂

  4. Are you trying to tell us someone actually landed on the moon, and the world’s flat? Come on old chap!

  5. Sandra's avatar Sandra says:

That sounds like a chap who might find himself short of company in the long term. Good one.

  6. Very well done, C.E. Consider my funny bone sufficiently tickled!
