a poem

I wrote a poem about my life
it told of family
and friends
of rock n roll
and opera
and books
that made me dream

I wrote a poem about my life
it told of where I’d been
from Copenhagen to Sydney
from Budapest to San Francisco
and most importantly
from Ayr to Aberdeen

I wrote a poem about a girl
it told of my love
for her eyes
her smile
her smell

I read my poems again today
and finally realised
that every one I’ve ever written
unsurprisingly
uses exactly
the same words

About ceayr

A Scot who has discovered peace in a small town he calls Medville on the Côte Vermeille, C.E. Ayr has spent a large part of his life in the West of Scotland and a large part elsewhere. His first job was selling programmes at his local football club and he has since tried 73 other career paths, the longest being in IT, with varying degrees of success. He is somewhat nomadic, fairly irresponsible and, according to his darling daughter, a bit random. So, nobody’s perfect.

Great flow to this poem. Like Jen, I think the change from Wrote to Read works well. Ayrshire skies can be so beautiful.

I think all of us who have deep passion for someone, something, somewhere, tend to write it again and again–not changing many words. Just my opinion😊 Leslie (of many blogs, aliases)

Jings, Lassie, how many disguises do you have? Are you on the run or in Witness Protection? You have more aliases than I do, and I’ve got a fair few!

So are you saying that we all lack imagination?
      That’s nice, I must say!

    But they are lovely words!

And you use them so well to tell about life in the perceptive way you have of looking into the heart of a situation.
The repetition of ‘I wrote’ and the change to ‘I read’ carries the poem along perfectly.

And it’s a beautiful photograph too.

    Beautiful!
