Auchenshuggle
Hey, guess what, I’ve just got a great new super power!
I was minding my own business, looking at Google Maps on the computer, when lightning hit the house and there was a power surge that caused a wee explosion, wrapped a zillion pixels around my face, and nearly blew my ears off.
‘Golly gosh’, I said (well, actually I paraphrase fairly significantly here), ‘this is worse than a night out in jolly old Auchenshuggle’, and – babloof! – there I was on the south side of London Road in Glasgow’s less-than-salubrious east end.
I admit that surprised me, so I conducted a few tentative experiments – a short trip to Inverness, a longer trip to Nice, then a week in Kos with my lady friend – and I confirmed I only had to say a place name in a certain way to be there, along with whoever I was touching at the time.
So I’m starting to ponder the possibilities, thinking that now I’m a superhero like Superman himself, Batman, Desperate Dan and guys like that, I could perform all sorts of noble deeds in the service of mankind.
Then I think ‘Nah, that’s not really my scene, I’ll just make a few bucks running a cheap tour racket’.

Brilliant and fun Six. I like how you included Desperate Dan among the list of superheroes. I still chuckle at his enormous cow pies with the horns sticking out, and an ox tail.
Back in the the days when The Beano was my literature of choice, Dan was The Man!
Golly gosh (also paraphrased) this was a fun surprise.
This is a curse free blog, dammit!
Glad you enjoyed.
Still sniggering! Great six 🙂
I like ‘sniggering’.
Thanks, Chris
What a delightful Six! To both read and listen.
Loved the opening scene. Definitely left us wondering what was coming next.
Though it sounded a tad painful to acquire, that is one superpower I wouldn’t mind having, lol
You are very kind, thank you.
I am enjoying this different challenge, quite stimulating.
nice work with the Six, yo
that whole street view feature is very cool (even the more mundane-stay-in-your-chair variety…)
welcome to Sixville
Thank you, sir, glad you enjoyed
Heeheehee! Fun story, a cheap tour racket might get old after a while, though.
We all get old after a while, dear lady…
Great original idea. Just avoid saying that word that rhymes with bell and is the hottest of all places. 🙂
Laughing,
Thanks, Doug, but this is a curse free blog!
My ears hurt from grinning. Great Six!
Sorry about your ears, Susan, but happy you enjoyed!
well done!
Thank you, sir
Just think of the dosh you’d have made from NASA if you’d organised their trip to Mars!
My six!
Yeah, that would be cool, I already spend most of my time being spaced out!
Keepin’ it simple…too many heroes in the world, and not enough just-nice, fun folks.
Makes sense to me.
Too many heroes?
We live in different worlds, Liz!
Maybe….🙃🙂
I liked hearing the sound of your voice reading this. And the surprise ending made me wonder if the cheap tour racket could be viewed as a kind of service to mankind.
Thanks, Frank, but I think the word ‘racket’ suggests more of a service to the narrator’s bank balance!
What a lovely fun story. It certainly raised a smile.
Thank you, Lindsey.
And welcoming a new visitor makes me smile too.
Come again!
What a brilliant story!
And in 6 superb sentences.
Wow!
Thanks, Jenne.
