Democracy – Weekend Writing Prompt

Artwork by Phil Burns

A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise. If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in Sammi’s Comment Section

Democracy

Death before dishonour?
Nah, disenfranchisement before defeat.
Mark Twain said ‘If voting made any difference, they wouldn’t let us do it.’
Prophetic words as democracy goes on trial in a nationwide court wrangle.

About ceayr

A Scot who has discovered peace in a small town he calls Medville on the Côte Vermeille, C.E. Ayr has spent a large part of his life in the West of Scotland and a large part elsewhere. His first job was selling programmes at his local football club and he has since tried 73 other career paths, the longest being in IT, with varying degrees of success. He is somewhat nomadic, fairly irresponsible and, according to his darling daughter, a bit random. So, nobody’s perfect.

Mark Twain said that? How cynical of him. Although he could be correct and we live in a Kakistocracy 🙂

  2. Bill's avatar Bill says:

I shall no longer take so many things for granted.
I don’t often push back on Mr. Clemens, but voting matters. We just need to get it right.
    Well done, CE.

  3. Well, there’s another fine mess they’ve gotten themselves into!

If the deep state is really in charge then it doesn’t matter who gets elected 🙁

  5. Dear CE,

Round and round she goes…good use of the word.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

  6. It’s a darn shame wrangling occurs over election results. We’ll have to wrangle to protect and preserve the constitution and democracy.

  7. Dora's avatar Dora says:

We’ll see if the constitutional system works. If the electorate loses faith in its integrity and fairness, our republic is dead.

  8. The courts are pretty much tossing those out before even looking at it because it is so frivolous … but, yeah … oy vey.

  9. Iain Kelly's avatar Iain Kelly says:

They don’t even seem to realise the damage they are doing. What happens when it’s time for the next election in America – will anyone bother? Will anyone accept any result? Long term damage for the sake of short term ego.
