Delivery Man 2 – The Sequel

Friday Fictioneers is hosted by the wonderful Rochelle, the undisputed master of what I call Sound Bite Fiction.
She sets the weekly challenge, the standard, and the prompt photo.
The idea, as always, is to write a story of around 100 words based on the picture below, which this week is supplied by
the lady herself.

Delivery Man 2 – The Sequel

Idiot! Moron! Cretin!
The boss is giving it laldy.

Y’see, I was supposed to off this dude.
But I’m there at his gate,
finger on trigger, and this wee smiley man comes out, hands me a bowl of ice cream, all different flavours.
It’s hot
today, son, he says, wife makes this for the grand-kids.
I couldn’t kill him,
could I?

The boss rants on.
Let me draw you a picture, he says, make sure you understand. You shoot him or I shoot you.
No, I think, I’ve got a better idea.
I still have his gun in my pocket.

  12. I had to Google laldy, it has a nice ring to it. I love this employee who is clearly in the wrong business. 🙂 Nice fun take CE 🙂

  13. The narration has a strong sense of character and the simple act of giving a bowl of ice cream saving a life was great. The last line is great as well.

  14. Bill's avatar Bill says:

Good one, CE. It is the foolish boss who insults an armed murderer.

  15. Oh, this is a great way to turn around last week’s story, and no, you can’t shoot a wee smiley man bearing ice cream. This made me smile. (Even though someone did meet a bad end. Ah, well.)

  16. Dale's avatar Dale says:

Once you accept the ice cream, you just can’t shoot him…

Laldy is a Scots word meaning with great intensity.
Giving it laldy is shouting and roaring.
Giving someone laldy is more physical, beating five out of five kinds of whatsit out of them!

  23. Tannille's avatar Tannille says:

Everything is easier with icecream. I enjoyed the gritty story.

  24. Iain Kelly's avatar Iain Kelly says:

Ice cream trumps bullets – perhaps if he’d saved some for his boss there would be more understanding.

  25. Anita's avatar Anita says:

I’d have been busy eating the ice-cream!
Maybe shoot some pics with the person who gives me ice-cream 🙂

  26. Sandra's avatar Sandra says:

Great take. Not along the lines I was expecting at all.

  27. Dear CE,

You just don’t shoot the man who gives you ice cream. Good one. And I learned a new bit of slang. Bonus.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

  28. Reena Saxena's avatar Reena Saxena says:

Wonderful! I thought of the same thing 🙂

  29. A nice bit of lateral thinking. There are always more options than we see at first
