Friday Fictioneers is hosted by the wonderful Rochelle, the undisputed master of what I call Sound Bite Fiction.
She sets the weekly challenge, and the standard.
This week’s curious photo prompt is provided by the indomitable Dale Rogerson, aka the Crazy Canuck.
The idea, as always, is to write a story of around 100 words based on this picture, below.

Flower Pots
The start of the summer season is always a red letter event for the little café in the square.
The walls and roof of the terrasse are rolled back, giving a much more spacious feel.
Tables and chairs, freshly sanded and varnished, are set out under parasols on the side-walk.
And this year, for the first time, large flower pots delineate the property.
Hey patron, one of the locals asks, is that wife of yours still at her mother’s in Portugal?
Mmm, Rafa winks at me, continuing to water his flourishing pot plants, I don’t think she’ll be coming back.

Interesting tale. It’s possible that he did away with his wife or she really is in Portugal and has decided not to return. Either way, he is happy taking care of his cafe and plants.
Rafa wouldn’t harm a fly.
Did I mention that I get free beer all summer?
Ha! Here’s a change-up. Someone other than the narrator plotting (plotted/potted?) demises. Well done as always. 🙂
Ha.Sounds like he has a notorious green thumb. All the better to hide the blood I suppose. Nicely done.
Could she be in the pots? Sinister with a light hearted feel, like it
Yes, I wonder what secret Rafa is keeping.
Leaves you wondering if she’s “planted” in one of the pots… love it! 🙂 <3
Dear CE,
Gives new meaning to pushing up daisies. Your imagination worries me me bit. 😉
Shalom,
Rochelle
Ah CE your reputation precedes you. Maybe she really is with her mother and he has turned his attention to something more low maintenance. Like potted plants.
Sounds like the narrator is complicit in the crime.
Pushing up daisies, no doubt.
More than the pot plants making him smile.
Evil man!
A wonderfully sinister tale!
Wonder what the high will be from the “potted” plants
This is sinister. what if her soul decides to haunt the place.

Now that seems sinister!
Crazy Canuck, eh?
That’s one way to get rid of her body…
Oh, gracious. Ewww.
Great dark humour in this piece.
I think as guest we should be glad he didn’t go the way of meat-pies… but can you hide the reek from the soil?
Are there any meat dishes we should avoid?
Your grim sense of humour always comes up with something colourful and polished!
And I won’t forget to put roses on your grave
Pour de belles fleurs ! Il faut un bon engrais.
Who would look there? Disposal of the body cunningly achieved.
That’s one well fed plant. Rafa
A fresh start all round.
The season starts with a bang
and flowers for the departed.
Delicious.
Composted! Nice one.
