AnElephantCant wait to get going
He is on tenterhooks for the sound of the starter’s gun
He likes this week’s pic
So he is off pretty quick
It reminds him of beautiful old Carcassonne
Once again it is Friday Fictioneer time.
Presented weekly by chere Madame Rochelle, this is une assiette of petits fours to tempt the most pernickety palate.
And ATastelessElephant.
The idea is to write a very short story, circa 100 words, based on this picture prompt (below).
That’s it.
Walled City
Inside the ancient walled city they stroll, admiring the rugged architecture and crumbling statues.
As soon as they see the scaffolding she fears the worst.
It is wet and windy, but she knows he will climb it for the view over the ramparts.
He ignores her, laughing at her concerns.
He is indestructible.
He reaches the top with scarcely a false move, gazes gleefully over the walls, over the valley, photographing everything.
When he stumbles she is terror-stricken, but unsurprised.
He grabs for support, laughing again.
Until he looks down to see the length of pipe protruding from her chest.

Loved the unexpected twist!
Whoa, that was a pretty dark turn of events for an old elephant. Carcassone must remind you of carcasses. Hey what? Charmingly written and well wrought.
She was not surprised, but I’m surprised & frightened.. Nice twist in the end!!
Great story, Elephant. I didn’t see that ending coming!
Cheers!

Woah…I guess he’s no longer laughing huh? Nice one AnElephant, I definitely missed your stories and their unpredictable twists 🙂
Wow, it was so surprising! I expected something awful to happen to him – not her. Good twist in your story – good job! Nan 😉
Ew, but oh what a good twist! I liked it!
Well, Elephant, you never cease to amaze me with the precise choice of words, or how well each sets tone and ambiance. It all comes together so beautifully, with such strength. Cheers!
Dear Elephant,
That certainly was a grisly twist. I expected him to fall off.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Elephant, Well written with a definite horrible twist at the end. It wasn’t pleasant, but was a good and surprising twist. Well done. 🙂 —Susan
I didn;t expect that. Ugh. Well conceived and told and surprising. Lucy
ugh.
Nice writing but hardly a nice ending.
Randy
Niiiice! 😀
A kick in the tail. Tragedy in so few words.
Oh, my! Nicely done.
Oh my, I love it!
I did not expect this. Surprised. Nicely written.
Well now, that certainly was a twist. Surprised me.
