He can’t believe his ears
It is Wednesday again
This is the day when
He writes a tale for the Fictioneers

Magic

And this ring is more powerful than any of these potions or lotions or …..?

Yes, it is the most potent piece of magic in the shop.

And how does it work exactly?

You just need her to put it on – look, it is very attractive, don’t you agree? – and say the magic word, then she will love you forever. It is totally irreversible.

And what is the magic word?

Let me write that down for you. Don’t want to do anything silly with this on!

How do you pronounce that?

Auchenshuggle.

Oh no!

Am I prettier than she is?

About ceayr

A Scot who has discovered peace in a small town he calls Medville on the Côte Vermeille, C.E. Ayr has spent a large part of his life in the West of Scotland and a large part elsewhere. His first job was selling programmes at his local football club and he has since tried 73 other career paths, the longest being in IT, with varying degrees of success. He is somewhat nomadic, fairly irresponsible and, according to his darling daughter, a bit random. So, nobody’s perfect.

Dear Elephant, I really don’t feel sorry for him as his real love doesn’t love him and he tried to force the love with trickery. I’m glad that it backfired! Nan

  2. I know what Auchenshuggle is now..:-)

  3. Sarah Ann's avatar Sarah Ann says:

Oops. Where do you go when the magic goes awry?

  4. neenslewy's avatar neenslewy says:

Love it… I saw where it was going towards the end. A fun read & another great Flash!

  5. elappleby's avatar elappleby says:

Very funny – I love the magic word (but I won’t be saying it aloud just in case!)

  6. Clever story. Time for a drink.

  7. zookyworld's avatar zookyworld says:

Once again, you bring humor to the Fictioneers.
For the Elephant, we shall give three cheers!

  8. Now there’s entrapment at its finest. Clever tale, Elephant.
    Shalom,
    Rochelle

  9. sandraconner's avatar sandraconner says:

Hilarious! Delightful! Serves both of them right for trying to trap some other innocent, unsuspecting person! A very nice piece of writing, Elephant.

  10. Love it — but it might be a better choice

  11. Joe Owens's avatar Joe Owens says:

Maybe she can hop on one foot and say the word backwards to reverse the spell. If he had my luck she would resemble a bull dog!

  12. 40again's avatar 40again says:

Loved this, made me laugh out loud
    Well done Elephant
    Dee

  13. I also smiled. Well done.

  14. Mystikel's avatar Mystikel says:

Lol. And he’ll live happily never after. Since it’s irreversible, he had better drink some of the potion himself now or life will be misery! At least then he’d be in love and think himself happy instead of having a lovesick conjurer after him for the rest of his days.

Because I can’t leave well enough alone – And I didn’t want to leave you stranded in some fog of the middle road somewhere. Oh to be young and in love…

    • …. but preferably with the right person!
Did you have to pay twice this week?

When the muse says… “Write me!” I don’t argue.
I could write for hours if I had the time…
Though I do get stuck if it goes on too long – I’ve not written any novels – yet.
        Mostly poetry, then Flash Fiction.
I’ve seen other folks post more than once – so I guess it’s OK.
I’ll play, writing – that is with anyone who asks…
        public or private.

    She wears the ring

    It’s in her head
    Like it or not
    She’s what you’ve got.
    Peace, Brother.

  30. …and now for my next trick, I will make it impossible for you to not visualize a monkey riding George W. Bush bareback whilst smoking a corncob pipe and singing Freebird in perfect Swedish.
(okay, maybe I lost you a bit on that last bit). Adorably absurd, darling!

  31. EagleAye's avatar EagleAye says:

Woohoo … brilliant. I love that. Just shows that when you try to force someone to love you, something will go wrong.
