The Mermaid
Did I ever tell you about the time I fell in love with a Mermaid?
I was abroad, in a strange city, crossing a bridge high above dark water, when I saw this stunning, exotic lady.
The thing is that when I’m out on my daily walk, regardless of where I am, I move at a fairly relaxed stroll, so as I approached her I had time to study her face, analyse her expression, and understand the wistful ache in her eyes as she gazed down at the waves far far below.
I stopped to talk and she told me her story, how she was a mermaid who longed to return to the sea but was afraid because of a terrible life with a violent husband.
I took her home with me and we fell in love and spent happy years together until I realised how much time she spent with Colin, the handsome young chap at the fishmonger’s.
The next time we were out for our daily walk, crossing a bridge high above dark water, I asked her about him and she laughed, and so, knowing she could swim, I just threw her off.
Note:
‘Colin’ in French means coalfish (UK) or pollock (USA).

Wonderful! At the start I was thinking, ‘beware, mermaids’, and then you turned it around and that made me laugh. Bravo for bringing a smile to my face just after reading Denise’s scary Six 🙂

I have used them as hunters in the past, but also fell in love with one some years ago…
