blue leaves

blue leaves by phil burns

blue leaves

blue leaves
the colour
of your eyes
so beautiful
so delicate
so natural
are to me
the perfect metaphor
for our love

they are
just like you
not significantly different
yet not at all
like the others

they have
their own unique
scent
a subtly mysterious
fragrance
that
sets them apart

in a mixed bouquet
they stand out
so much that
everything else
is all but
invisible

but they should
not be cut
they should
never be removed
from their
native environment
because then
as I now know
they wither
and die
and the girl
with eyes of blue
leaves

Beautiful and sad reflection. The play on the final word… The art work is fabulous too.
