Delivery Man 2 – The Sequel

Friday Fictioneers is hosted by the wonderful Rochelle, the undisputed master of what I call Sound Bite Fiction.
She sets the weekly challenge, the standard, and the prompt photo.
The idea, as always, is to write a story of around 100 words based on the picture below, which this week is supplied by
the lady herself.

Delivery Man 2 – The Sequel

Idiot! Moron! Cretin!
The boss is giving it laldy.

Y’see, I was supposed to off this dude.
But I’m there at his gate,
finger on trigger, and this wee smiley man comes out, hands me a bowl of ice cream, all different flavours.
It’s hot
today, son, he says, wife makes this for the grand-kids.
I couldn’t kill him,
could I?

The boss rants on.
Let me draw you a picture, he says, make sure you understand. You shoot him or I shoot you.
No, I think, I’ve got a better idea.
I still have his gun in my pocket.

I’d say good riddance to that boss.

  12. The narration has a strong sense of character and the simple act of giving a bowl of ice cream saving a life was great. The last line is great as well.

Good one, CE. It is the foolish boss who insults an armed murderer.

  14. Oh, this is a great way to turn around last week’s story, and no, you can’t shoot a wee smiley man bearing ice cream. This made me smile. (Even though someone did meet a bad end. Ah, well.)

You just don’t shoot the man who gives you ice cream. Good one. And I learned a new bit of slang. Bonus.
