A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise. If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in Sammi’s Comment Section Click here to hear the author read his words:
Tips For Sleeping
There are many ways to induce sleep.
Well, lots of suggested methods, some of which might even work.
They all start with the same, fairly obvious, advice.
Make yourself comfortable, relax muscles, close eyes, breathe evenly.
The most interesting next move is this.
Think of what you have forgotten.
I find this distressing.
I fear it might give rise to unwelcome, suppressed memories.
If you talk in your sleep, as I do, you might unwittingly blurt out something inappropriate.
And my unfortunate wife would discover what really happened to her predecessor.
That was fun. You just put a smile on my face.

I have a sound bite? I will therefore use it to say: great wee story. Last line took me quite by surprise.

What a pleasure to see you here with a comment, Jenne.
Did you not notice my strap line – Sound Bite Fiction ‘where nothing is quite what it seems’?
Usually.

You smile at odd times, do you not?

Perhaps. Didn’t think so, but will reassess that now. 😁

Oh no, please don’t!
A spontaneous smile, for whatever reason, is one of Nature’s wonders.

Ha! Well, perhaps such a history ‘earned’ one the ‘right’ to sleep with one eye open … 😉

Dear CE,
When I think of what I’ve forgotten it keeps me awake. Many nights I’ve planned my entire life. 😉 The last line made me laugh.

Ah, not the things you forgot to do, m’lady, the things in your past that you have forgotten.
Another 9 words would have made that more clear!
