This week I have decided to try something different, a double challenge.
Firstly, as always, is Susan Spaulding’s Sunday Photo Fiction, a weekly prompt to create a short story (200 word max) inspired by what you see in the picture (below).
And secondly my first attempt at Sammi Cox’s Weekend Writing Prompt, which this week asks for a 77-word story containing the word ‘Denial’.

Perfidy
The official denial surprises no one.
It is a lie, of course.
Our neighbours are known for their duplicity, but this act of treachery took everyone by surprise.
A certain amount of skulduggery is expected, naturally.
We all do it.
Espionage, clandestine meetings, dead-drops, the usual underhand dealings and double-crosses, all acceptable.
If the public got wind of this there would be clamour for war.
This isn’t the war we want.
We prefer them on our side.
You run with a shady bunch CE…

Interesting, different, it is good to challenge oneself, I think.

Dangerous to have a duplicitous neighbour on the side. Never know when the bite will come.
