Sunday Photo Fiction is a weekly challenge presented by Susan Spaulding, who has taken over this great weekly prompt from my old friend Al Forbes.
This week’s curious photo is by the lady herself, and took me down a predictable path.
The idea is to write a short story (200 word max) inspired by what you see in the picture (below).

Just like Jagger
Like a lot of young guys, I wanted to be a rock star.
I adored the Beatles, loved the Who, envied Ray Davies’ song-writing for the Kinks, and admired Burdon’s Animals.
But I utterly worshipped Jagger and the Stones.
Ah, the hours in front of the mirror, tossing my hair, pouting my (wholly inadequate) lips, practising the iconic two-hand slap.
Glory days.
But, truth be told, I wasn’t that good.
So I went to university, studied a bit, got a degree, went out into the big world.
I fell in love and got married, had kids.
Built a career, made a good living.
But always, in the back of my mind, the dream danced on.
So, eventually, I formed a tribute band.
The Crawling Bones.
We get occasional gigs in local pubs and youth centres.
Okay, we are all in our sixties, apart from our drummer, who is about 143 years old and can’t drum.
But our stuff is just about recognisable.
And, if I can make the joke you are all waiting for, it gives us Satisfaction.
I know I can’t sing.
I know I can’t strut my stuff.
But, to be honest, I am a hopeless architect too.
If you are now in the mood to hear perhaps the greatest ever rock n roll song:
That house screams “write me in a story!”.. and how differently each one would be. Love this photo prompt!

At least you followed your dream. You did it without neglecting your duties and responsibilities. So what you cannot sing. You had the courage to stand up in front of a room full of people.

C.E., I love your humorous side. Nothing predictable about this one (at least for me). The image of you pouting your lips was priceless. Didn’t we all want to be someone else at that age? Creative take on the prompt.

A really imaginative take CE; I like it when you let your lighter side come out (not that I don’t like your darker stories too).
