Allez Les Bleus – Sunday Photo Fiction

Sunday Photo Fiction is a weekly challenge presented by Susan Spaulding, who has taken over this great weekly prompt from my old friend Al Forbes.
This week, once again, she also provides the photo prompt,
which shows the shirt of one of my all-time favourite football players, the maestro Diego Maradona, scorer of one of my all-time favourite goals.
Yes, that one, it still makes me laugh!
As my adopted country is in today’s World Cup Final, I am pressed for time, so my story this week is a rerun from 4 years ago.
And, unlike Susan, I am taking sides.

The clue is in the title.
The idea is to write a short story (200 word max) inspired by what you see in the picture (below).

Allez Les Bleus!

There is one in every town.
And in every café.
A big mouth who thinks he is a big man.
Who has to be the centre of everything.
Well, the one in this town brings a cock to the café.
A real live French rooster.
To watch the recent France v Argentina soccer match at the World Cup.
Most people feel sympathy for the poor squawking bird, surrounded by blaring televisions and excited football fans.
The big head thinks it is hilarious.
Why did you bring that stupid beast to see the game, someone asks.
He is driving, says the cock.

Hehe. Perfect last line and punchline. Although if I were the rooster, I might choose to take a cab. The beast can’t be trusted to walk by the end of the game. Wonderful writing CE and hugs to you my friend.

Quite an amusing tale. Best of luck today. I do take sides but thought it best with an international community to keep that to myself.

A pair of cocks it seems. A peculiarly French custom that one, I believe they no longer have the rooster at the rugby games anymore. Enjoy the atmosphere today and good luck.
