Sunday Photo Fiction is a weekly challenge now presented by Susan Spaulding, who has taken over this great weekly prompt from my old friend Al Forbes.
This week, once again, she also provides the photo.
The idea is to write a short story (200 word max) inspired by what you see in her picture (below).

Spy vs Spy
I am the most inept spy in the world.
According to my boss, that is.
Frankly I don’t agree.
I have been on some very successful missions.
Well, nearly.
Nearly on some that were successful.
And on some that were nearly successful.
But I am confident this time.
I am part of a surveillance team.
I am in a public park, surveying like crazy.
We have eyes on a guy suspected of passing secrets to very bad guys.
We are the good guys, so we don’t like very bad guys.
On this mission we are using super-expensive, ultra-sophisticated wristwatch/communicators.
I scratch my ear and speak quietly, look kinda cool.
Okay, that is maybe not the most important thing about being a secret agent, but it makes me feel really good.
Target acquired, complete radio silence until twenty-one hundred, says the voice on my wrist.
Chief, I respond urgently, wondering why he groans, what time is it now?
So he is no James Bond character, at least the ladies should be safe.

‘We are the good guys, so we don’t like very bad guys’ – an unfortunate summing up of the way the intelligence agencies and politicians of the world see themselves, on both sides. Amusing tale CE.

There is probably a lot of truth to this in the secret-agent world. It made me smile out loud.
