Escape – Sunday Photo Fiction

Sunday Photo Fiction is a weekly challenge presented by my old friend Al Forbes.
The idea is to write a short story (200 word max) inspired by what you see in the picture (below).
This week’s
intriguing photo by our mighty leader had surprisingly little impact on my mental state, leaving me as confused as ever.
But befuddlement has never stopped me from writing a short story.

Escape

I am doomed.
Even with my legendary ability to wriggle out of the most dire situations, I see no way of escape.
The chains are strong.
The padlocks are secure.
The water level is halfway up my chest, rising steadily.
It is icy cold.
And I am under guard.
Two armed sentries watch me constantly.
Furthermore, ironically, I am on TV.
My family and friends, who have seen me make the impossible look easy, are viewing live pictures.
Sadly, they are helpless to assist.
The message is clear.
Do not mess with The Family.
I make one last effort.
Any room for manoeuvre, anywhere?
Chains?
Negative.
Padlocks?
Negative.
The water is almost at my chin.
I am doomed.
Unless…
Hmm, I have an idea.
