Sunday Photo Fiction is a weekly challenge presented by my old friend Al Forbes.
The idea is to write a short story (200 word max) inspired by what you see in his picture (below).
This week’s photo is, to my great surprise, by me.
It shows Scotland’s River Leven, just above its confluence with the River Clyde.

Lyon
I love Lyon.
It is a 2,000 year old historical and cultural centre, with superb architecture on steep hills which provide spectacular views.
And its two magnificent rivers converge here.
The Saône runs down Eastern France, under a series of great bridges in great towns, including personal favourites Chalon and Mâcon.
The Rhone rises in the Swiss Alps and passes through Lake Geneva before heading south-west for another hundred or so miles into this beautiful city.
I am here for two weeks, all expenses paid.
Life is good.
Not only that, but the job is an interesting challenge.
They are a lovely couple, Ronnie and Sandy.
They have two lovely kids.
A lovely Golden Labrador, some lovely rabbits.
You get the picture.
A perfect life.
But it isn’t, of course, or I wouldn’t be here.
On the face of it, quite straightforward.
But the client, for his own reasons, wants them drowned.
One in each river.
No problem.
Ronnie and Sandy, the Rhone and the Saône.
Guess who goes where.

Oh, my…I wasn’t expecting the ‘Job’.
Hard to imagine any client wanting to take out a whole family.
But then I do like a good murder mystery. Especially when the crime gets solved! 😉

It’s a good story to start the donated photos. As it was your suggestion and you sent me them before I asked, I had to use one of yours first 🙂

A story of great contrasts: the beginning versus the end. I love the way you point us one direction and then suddenly turn a corner. A great read. Lovely photograph too!

Actually a fast-flowing river, Em, second only to the Spey, reputedly.
But do you know what that ‘lovely couple’ did?
Yep, they built a French website.

What a dilemma to resolve. I would mix it up and put Ronnie down the Saone and Sandy down the Rhone.
