Hit Woman – Sunday Photo Fiction

Sunday Photo Fiction is a weekly challenge presented by my old friend Al Forbes.
The idea is to write a short story (200 word max) inspired by what you see in his picture (below).
This week’s clever photo makes me think that Al is a really smart cookie!
And his technical jargon provides me with a second link to my story.
Thanks also, Al, for explaining my situation.
I apologise to everyone for my lack of response, but I have had, for some weeks now, a trapped or damaged nerve somewhere on my right arm/shoulder/back which leaves my hand almost paralysed.
I type now with one finger and my hand at an extreme angle, not pleasant, but almost funny!
I am still undergoing tests, seeing specialists and doing physiotherapy.
My thanks to those who still visit and comment.

Hit Woman

She has a figure that stops traffic.
I know she has always worked hard to keep it that way, it is a major asset in our line of work.
I hear she wants to retire, but has one last contract to fulfil.
When she calls me, I wonder.
I adore her, I confess, and I know she has strong feelings for me too.
I was her mentor, taught her most of what she knows.
She was a fast learner, a natural.
We always found each other attractive, but we stayed professional.
In this business, if you don’t you are dead.
My last job was a fiasco, that I took the blame for.
The intelligence supplied by the client via my employers was horribly flawed, but it was my finger on the trigger.
So I wonder.
Am I her target, or is she just saying goodbye?
She appears at my door in classic Private Eye attire, trench coat and fedora.
I show her the gun in my hand.
She smiles and shrugs.
Her left hand slowly unfastens her belt, her right hand is in her pocket.
The coat falls open.
She is wearing black stockings.
Nothing else.
I shoot her in her beautiful chest.
She stares up at me in disbelief.
I check her pockets.
They are empty.

I like watching the NCIS programs. And your story reminded me of them. Trust is hard in the spy/hit game.

I had an issue a few years back with a slipped neck disc and I had trouble doing quite a bit of stuff. I hope they figure it out for you soon. Best to you and your recovery.

And don’t worry about visits…just enjoy reading and writing. ~Jules

Oh, wow. Didn’t see that coming. Her shooting him but not the other way around. Great story.

  3. This just proves the danger of that line of work. Not only has he killed his love, he’ll go to prison for it. His future looks black indeed. He’s been in that line of work far too long. Prison would be an extremely dangerous place for a private eye. I hope your pain is lessening and will soon be gone. —- Suzanne

Damned fool… Then again, in their line of business, letting one’s guard down can be a mortal mistake… So very well written sir!

  5. Oh man. I understand his need for self preservation but gosh darn it, I wanted a happy ending. I guess I always do.
    Get well soon,

Intense story. Built-up so well, but I think he just shot the woman he loved. Expecting her to murder him, but that was not her intentions at all. He is going to regret shooting her I believe. Great job Caeyr. I hope you’re healing up and doing well.

Hoping you get better soon. I know how hard it is when your have trouble with any limb. Good health to you.
Your story does not reflect any health issues you are a great story teller. As I read it I wondered how it would end. Sad but great ending. Or maybe not so sad as it could have been him.

So sorry you’ve got those health problems. Hope you recover rapidly. It hasn’t affected the quality of your writing however! That’s a nice ‘bite’ at the end.

First of all, great story. I love the twist with him shooting her. Secondly, my very best wishes to you and hopefully a speedy recovery. Those damn fingers are so often ignored by the brain, but when they act up, we really take notice.

  10. Dear CE,

An explosive good bye and a graphic case of jumping to conclusions. Still sending healing thoughts and gentle hugs your way. That kind of pain is exhausting. I hope this is soon a memory.

    Shalom,

  11. Oh no. She was just there to say goodbye. Unless of course she planned on strangling him with her stockings, so there is a possibility he did the right thing 🙂 Great story.
