Sunday Photo Fiction is a weekly challenge presented by my old friend Al Forbes.
The idea is to write a short story (200 word max) inspired by what you see in his picture (below).

At this time of year in Medville, I see lots of deck chairs, not so many regal thrones!
Below is an example of what I call Sound Bite Fiction.
Deck Chair
I am almost asleep in the deck chair.
Jan, my youngest, is on my lap.
Al is looking after the two boys, who are happily covering him in sand.
Good luck with that, I think, he has put on a pound or two in the last few years.
But he is a great father and a good husband.
I waken with a start, a mother’s instinct telling me that something is wrong.
But no, the boys are playing some electronic game, laughing and arguing.
Where’s daddy and Jan, I ask, only half-interested.
To my surprise they jump up, look at each other, then all around.
Boys?
Um, daddy went for a swim.
My heart plummets.
They scan the sand.
So we buried Jan instead.
Poor Jan 😦

Ah – the moral of this story, always leave a flag.

Well, never bury your little sister might be an alternative, don’t you think?

Yeah that too!

I think he is a goner. An amusing yet unnerving take.

She is certainly in trouble unless she can breathe sand.

Interesting take on the picture prompt! I am worried about Al and Jan, though 🙂

Oh, Al is fine, he is having a swim.
Jan?
Not so much.

AnElephantCant sit in this chair
Although it is quite fine for a kingy or a dukey
It is a question of size
Even if they are big guys
There is no way he can squeeze in his mammoth bahookie

Henry VIII’s bahookie wasn’t exactly petite.
